The Dave 29" fixed-gear roadster bicycle (2003-NYC)
The Dave came together to satiate a passion for big wheels.
I made it fixed-gear, a fat-tire monster track Sports Utility Velo.
It's frame was silver brazed with 4130 straight gauge main tubes,
Columbus tube stays, Pacenti track ends, Henry James lugs,
Fat Chance mtb fork with brazed extention.
Tires are changed for seasons: semi-knobby WTB Nano Raptor (52-622) for winter snow,
then semi-slick Schwalbe Big Apple (60-622) for summer time.
With sprockets 42 ÷ 18, a 2.333 gear ratio,
with WTB Nano Raptor tire diameter × 29.1 inches = 67.9 gear inches.
By metrics, tire diameter × 740 mm (2323 mm circumference) = 5.42 meters development.
With Shimano 600 cranks arms 170 mm length = 5.07 gain ratio.
In 2004, Spike Legsworth took it for the U.S. Coaster Brake Team presented by Perry Hubs.
